Giving…with a little hidden expectation that there will be a payoff someday.

When you give to others, do you expect something in return? In what form? When is the last time you gave and expected nothing in return – really, truly?

I think of myself as a generous person. I know that I truly enjoy helping others, and yet…

And yet, I am starting to recognize that I live in a fairly closed box. I’m not so sure I make myself accessible to those around me. Additionally, even if not expecting something in return I am recognizing that in my head I still often think of a hopeful ‘thing in return.’ It has little to do with the external and much more to do with how I view my actions internally.

I would like to diminish some of those, even remote, expectations. I wrote recently about asking for help. I also want to give more often without thinking ‘what’s in it for me?’. How about you?
